The Fighter
Mar. 8th, 2011 11:51 amOn Sunday I caught an evening show of The Fighter. Christian Bale deserved his Oscar. Melissa Leo? Not so much, in my opinion. she's done better work elsewhere. Perhaps it was a career Oscar. I think Amy Adams may have done a better job. There wasn't time to create dimensionality for the characters given it was plot based.
It was a simple movie; the fighting scenes might be hard for some to watch.
What touched me the most was the inclusion of a disabled person as a (very) minor character. He's in several scenes and is apparently developmentally (neurologically?) disabled. Hard to tell.
In the opening sequence, he is greeted by the Mark Wahlberg character and gently hugged. Later, he is touched by the Christian Bale character and near the end of the movie, the Melisa Leo character gives him a squeeze, almost as an afterthought.
