Question 2

What about your new job excites you the most?

The opportunity to see new technology. Part of my job will be evaluating outside technologies (universities, start-ups) in addition to developing products in our lab. I find that very exciting - fresh ideas, creative people, traveling.

I can't go into any detail, but my work is focused on nanotechnology - this is a full circle with my doctoral research. I'm very excited.

Thank you for asking!

Today was your first day there, wasn't it?
Or am I time-tripping again?

You're not tripping - yesterday was my first day. Your memory is amazing!

Thanks for saying so. There was a time last year when we were dialing in my thyroid meds that I'd pick up a pen and couldn't remember what I was going to write. :)

I hope it works out well for you. So few people really enjoy their work that it's great to see when someone can get excited about it.

There was a long time - in the mid to late 90s - where I thought I had made an egregious error in my career selection. After I joined SLAC in 2002 (and started using LJ around the same time) I learned to love my work - with the outlet of teaching making that possible as well.

Glad the meds are dialed in. I swear my brain is functioning at half capacity.

Congratulations, and I hope the first day went well.

It did! Thank you.

Sounds like lots of fun. Hope you enjoy!

It is; the challenge for me will be feeling comfortable in not being the person doing the experiments (and keep my meddling mittens out of them.)

sounds like a lovely thing to do!

It's something I really enjoy - building collaborations. Pleased I have the opportunity.
