One broken finger

Folks on FB saw the lovely photos - I'll spare folks the images here but for some time the ring finger on my non-dominant hand was zombie colored!! Mmmm, brains.

A week ago Tuesday I broke the bone in the fingertip of my left ring finger by smashing it in the lat pull down machine at a hotel gym. For the first time I had an actual use for the ice bucket -- I watched CNBC while suspending my finger in slush. The next day I gave a presentation with my hand casually in my pocket - improper business etiquette but a purple finger three times its normal width can be distracting.

I returned to the office Thursday am where my boss' boss promptly sent me to Kaiser for an x-ray - imagine my surprise when they showed me the jpegs. I'm impressed with Kaiser; I was admitted, x-rayed, splinted, and released in under 45 minutes via the ER. They wanted to give me Vicodin(TM) but I politely declined.

Yesterday I met with the orthopedist who said the finger would heal fine and gave me a more appropriate clip shape splint that fits over the finger tip (the original splint is called a "frog" splint but I had named it "Keith Haring figurine" splint in my head.)

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day in the US and I will be spending it with my gf and some of her family. I will also be grading, writing presentations for work, and catching up with Nanowrimo.

How are you?

Ouch! At least it's not your dominant hand. I've heard a break at the tip is more painful than further down. (I'm not standing in line to test the theory.)

Random question for you: I was talking with someone about the claim GM is making about the MPG for the Volt, and we were wondering how it compares to the Prius. I said I knew just the person to ask what the "real life" equivalent to MPG is. So, if you don't mind, how does it stack up?

I'm tired after installing a new water heater, and now contemplating cooking...

Eeek. Take care of yourself.

I'm doing good. Spent the whole day wokring and baking goodies for tomorrow. I made apple spice cake, flourless chocolate cake, sticky gingerbread cake (egg free) and started on candied cranberries. I'll also be making spiced cider.

I'm lying awkwardly on a pile of sleeping bags and laundry, my left knee bent to my left beside me in a position I know I'll regret later, but DJ's on it. Sadie's down below my right foot, and Zoe's off to my right. They are also enjoying the pile of sleeping bags and laundry.

(otherwise...)

This squeamish girl thanks you for the LJ cut!

I never thought I'd say this about NaNoWriMo, but: I'm glad it's almost over (for this year). I think next year I'll pick an easier genre - Detective Fiction is hard to write! It's been fun, but it is most definitely harder than it was last year.

How's your NaNoWriMo story going? I haven't seen a word-count from you yet (and it kinda worries me). Is your story going okay?

I love Vicodin. About 10 years ago, my son got hurt surfing and the MD gave him a scrip for Vicodin Elixr. He filled out the scrip wrong and gave us 10 refills in which I promptly took advantage. One New Years Eve, we had a party and were doing Jager shots. I found a new use for the Vicodin when I mixed 50% Vicodin-50% Jager. My friends and I did many of those shots and it was a very religious experience and I saw God.

Ouch! Hope the holiday is pleasant for you and yours.

I'm on the well side of my current average, so yay.
