An amazing birthday
Nov. 1st, 2009 01:52 pmI've had an amazing past 3 days. Went to bed at 6AM this morning after dancing for hours and having an early breakfast. Was able to see
revdrmarsh on Friday, Saturday, and today - a trip to Dallas in the near future is mandatory.
On Friday we flew in to Vegas from Oakland and had dinner at CarneVino (owned by Mario Batali, the Iron Chef.) We had a wonderful Santa Maria Pinot Noir and this light-weight got very silly after 2 glasses. Much laughter. My favorite part - the hand soap in the bathrooms was made from rendered fat from the kitchen. Dinner for 7 of us with wine was 1134. Ouch. Guess who got the points and the "friend ATM"?
We stayed at the Four Seasons which is on the top four floors of the Mandalay Bay. After dinner we caught Kathy Griffin's 10:30PM show - very funny, extremely vulgar. Typical KG. We had a fourth meal courtesy of room service with some of the best hot chocolate I've ever had.
Saturday Michelle slept in while I met
revdrmarsh for brunch at the Border Grill. I feel so comfortable with
revdrmarsh - we've been LJ friends since 2002, I think - and talked the poor man's ear right off. I also hugged him excessively but he was very gracious about it.
Saturday evenings we had a wonderful Korean rib eye and avocado friend rice then caught Cirque de Soleil's Zumanity. If you're from a very conservative or sheltered background I'm sure it's quite risque. Living in the Bay Area it was much more tame than Pride or the Folsom Street Fair. The acrobats/gymnasts/dancers were lovely. We sat on the sofa's in the front courtesy of Michelle's friend's gift to us (175 a ticket!) and it was a bit disappointing that the MC interacted with all the straight couples but she would skip over us quickly.
She did ask if there were lesbians in the house and when we cheered she motioned toward us and said, "if we have any mechanical issues tonight we know who to ask to fix it." This struck me as especially funny since Michelle and I fall into the category of "least handy lesbians EVER." I guess she's hasn't gotten the whole Femme thing yet.
Saturday night never ended; after Zumanity we went dancing at Krave for their lesbian dance night, Candy Bar. We danced for over three hours (no small feat (heh heh) as we were both in motorcycle boots.) The mix ranged from hip hop to 80s to punk and there was a cute costume contest held. (Our favorite, Edward Scissorhands, lost to the Mad Hatter. The young woman who was Edward Scissorhands was amazing - identical to the movie character.) At one point a young woman came over to tell me I was cute and Michelle mentioned it was my birthday. When I told her she was 41 she insisted on seeing my i.d. Needless to say, this twenty-five year old was incredibly drunk.
Sometime after 3AM we hailed a cab and went back to the Mandalay Bay for breakast; 8 of our friends joined us about an hour later. Waffles, conversation, and next thing you know the sun was up.
My flight is boarding so I'll spare you any other details. I'm so happy to see birthday 41.
