Attended an all day meeting at SwRI (Southwest Research Institute) to determine if there is any contract research my division at work could utilize. Great day with two fun scientists, then a good Tex-Mex dinner. Note to self: Tequila gives you acid reflux.
Also, I got to stand in not one, but two of <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/anechoic_chamber">these (one for RF, one standard.) The standard one had a mesh floor (with acoustic foam underneath) that was on springs. Bouncy and very quiet; it messed up my ears and sense of balance. The RF chamber has pyramidal absorbent material and standing in the room, in near darkness, with the door closed I felt like I was in a science fiction film. If Sigourney Weaver had walked by, I wouldn't have blinked.
There was also an echo chamber and it lived up to its name (.8 seconds to decrease 60dB) and was damn loud.
Very cool technology and I believe we'll collaborate on at least one project.
Home tomorrow briefly (long enough to do a load of laundry and send in some health care flex spending receipts) then a 6AM flight to Dayton.
